Want to be the top “Ireland expert” in your family – or give a great gift to your favorite fan of everything Irish?

The Great Little of Fun Things You Probably Don’t Know About Ireland is an informative and very amusing look at what makes the Irish just a little different – well very different actually – from everyone else on earth. See it now at Amazon.com

I’m an Irish-American writer named Robert Sullivan, and I first visited my grandfather’s hometown in Ireland back in 1975 (in County Kerry). I just got completely hooked on the place. Even more than the famous scenery, I was amazed by the people and their culture, history and great sense of humor about life. Since then, I’ve been an avid collector of offbeat stories from the Irish newspapers, unusual facts about Irish culture, unique Irish quotations and lots more. This book contains all the best stuff I’ve found over the years. See more information and reader reviews here at Amazon.com

“A dear friend of mine suggested it to me and it came with rave reviews. I gave it a whirl and I was blown away. This book is incredible and highly recommend it!”

The Great Little Book of Fun Things You Probably Don’t Know About Ireland (145 pages) is intelligent entertainment to enjoy on your next train to work, or your next flight over to Ireland. Enjoy learning about:

  • Who was the last witch in Ireland.
  • What’s the meaning behind those mysterious Celtic Knot designs?
  • The origin of Irish expressions like “beyond the pale” and “by hook or by crook,” as well as the gaelic language origins of modern words like “slogan” and “galore.”
  • Which Irish island sea captains have traditionally carried pebbles from.
  • Why it’s a tradition to turn the birthday boy upside down and bump his head on the floor.

My favorite part of the book is a collection of offbeat quotations by famous Irish and Irish-American folks including:

  • “You know it’s summer in Ireland when the rain get’s warmer.” – Hal Roach
  • “Not a shred of evidence exists in favor if the idea that life is serious.” – Brendan Gill
  • “I am a drinker with a writing problem.” Brendan Behan
  • “I spent 90% of my money on women and drink. The rest I wasted.” – George Best

“ This book covers all things Irish—the magical, mystical and the oh so quirky. It’s perfect for carrying around in my shoulder bag.”
